The world as we know it is becoming increasingly interconnected.
It also doesn't take much to see that almost all modern communications technologies are integrating internet services in some way or another. This list of web enabled technology is long and growing, e.g.
- mobile phones
- email
- software applications
- recruitment
-
|
- taxation & government services
- television
- news services
- advertising
|
- audio, radio,music
- video, movies and film
- internet telephony
- banking

It is important is setup your business' internet business.
- The World Wide Web is barely 10 years old.
- The Internet pervades a significant part of each of our everyday lives.
- The Internet is currently a boom industry.
- US online retail trade for the first quarter of 2006 was over $US25.4 billion.
- The cost of entry is a domain, some hosting, a professional website and a some marketing effort.
- It is easy for a "layperson" to maintain and market a web business.
Now consider this Australia is second in terms of per capita (after the US) spend on Internet-related products in the world. This expansion is fueled by cheap and expanding broadband coverage and will only open up further in the future. Given that Australia is around 1/10 the population of the USA this means that online retail is a multi-billion dollar industry.
The costs of entry are low, the market is booming, the infrastructure is expanding exponentially and becoming inexpensive. Opportunities abound.
Kind of makes you want to get involved, doesn't it? ...Still not convinced the Internet is the way of the future?
It isn't hard to see the impact of the Internet. Considering much of
the general public hardly used a computer prior to Windows 95, the
Internet has come a long way in just 10 short years.
It's hallmarks are everywhere. Email, Internet telephony,
news, shopping, and dating are everyday features in todays environment,
and websites are becoming the norm regardless of age or economic
profile.
Its boundaries are getting harder and harder to distinguish, too.
Mobile
devices can send receive and browse online, using online resources for
things like travel routes, sports scores and audio downloads. Games,
banking and education sectors are increasingly expanding theirInternet services, as too are exhibition venues, weather organisations and governments, travel centres and employment agencies.
You
see, the secret is interconnectiveness. Getting instant contact with
an immense number of users almost instantly. And we are going online in
big numbers. Increasingly sophisticated users are demanding
increasingly sophisticated online services. So previously disparate
technologies are being web-enabled.
We
are at the advent of the web-enabled workspace. Some would argue that it is already
here. I'll put my bet on that as soon as Internet connections are as fast as a
relatively new PC, a truly web-centred world will be a reality.
